8 Iranian Officials Sanctioned by the UK for Human Rights Abuses

The UK’s HM Treasury recently added 8 Iranian government officials to their Iran(Human Rights) sanctions list. The sanctions aimed at the officials are financial in nature and look to freeze their funds, assets, & economic resources.

The officials include Iranian judges, members of the military, and politicians. The sanctions come in light of Iran’s continued human rights abuse, torture of protestors/political prisoners, and the constant hostility of Iranian government officials towards UK-based journalists.

Here are the 8 officials and their designations –

  • Parviz Absalan – IRGC Deputy Commander(Sistan & Baluchistan)
  • Mohammad Karami – Governor(Sistan & Baluchistan); Former IRGC Ground Forces Commander
  • Mohammad Taghi Osanloo – IRGC Ground Forces Commander
  • Amanollah Garshasbi – IRGC Deputy Commander(Sistan and Baluchistan)
  • Hassan Asgari – Governor(Sanandaj)
  • Hadi Mansouri – Presiding Judge(Branch 4; Revolutionary Courts of Mashhad)
  • Morteza Barati – Presiding Judge(Branch 1; Revolutionary Courts of Isfahan)
  • Musa Al-Hosseini – Presiding Judge(Branch 1; Revolutionary Courts of Karaj)

5 of the 8 officials mentioned in the list are also sanctioned by the EU & the US in their respective human rights abuses list. It is likely that the UK will add more Iranian officials to its human rights sanction lists in the coming weeks.
